ArtSpace Series: George Mack Photography
"The World I Imagine"
Though I started with a 35 year career in teaching (both high school and college biology) and later added being a lawyer to my resume, I have never lost my lifelong love of art. Upon retirement, I extended my passion for art into the field of photography. My extensive travels have increased my desire to capture images, manipulate and print them in various ways and thus convey my feelings about a subject to the viewer.
On each adventure, whether to another country or simply to my greenhouse or the local market, I may take thousands of photographs, trying to capture things differently than others might. Since I prefer to photograph architecture and the natural world, I try to frame a scene so that there are no people present--often waiting patiently for that last pedestrian or vehicle to leave the shot.
Upon returning to my studio, I examine each photo more carefully for those that best exemplify the locale and my feelings toward it. These photos may then be manipulated using assorted software programs and techniques. The images are printed on various media (canvas, art papers, metals, fabrics, etc.); always trying to choose the medium that best complements the image. I constantly experiment with colors, lighting and media. It is my view that the photographs are simply the initial canvas upon which my ultimate image may be shown.
This show, "The World I Imagine" is a sampling of my work. Here I show a wide variety of photographic and printing techniques using several media chosen to present diverse images. Most of these images were printed in my studio on an Epson 7880 printer. Images on wood and larger metal pieces are printed commercially.
